Bit late to the whole "my impression of The Lion Guard" thing but hey. Better late than never!
Anyway. It was so darn stupidly cute! The songs were super catchy - I still have "Tonight We Strike" stuck in my head! (Veeery Nightmare Before Christmas-y!) The style is a liiiiiitle hard to get used to, but it's not awful.
I really like the new cubs, Zuri and Tiifu. It was nice to see Kiara interacting with friends since in Simba's Pride the pride is weirdly absent of all cubs. I liked how she was capable and a tad more mature than she was in the sequel (at least, more mature than the part before the "We Are One" song - there's quite the time skip between that and her first hunt so she may have accepted her role as future monarch a bit more between then, explaining her behavior in TLG). Though, I didn't really like how she was damseled at the end. Zuri seems like she'd be the more obvious choice, since she panicked when she got her claws stuck in a log, and I expect in real danger she'd panic even more.
I really want to know why Kion is gone in Simba's Pride, too. Maybe he and the Lion Guard left before the whole Outlander thing to protect the greater Prideland area? If we don't get an explanation I guess TLG is just an AU!
I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed it's not set post-SP. I really wanted to see the young adult Kiara have a younger brother, and it would have been cool to see Kiara and Kovu taking on their new responsibilities as monarchs. But I'm hoping that as the series progresses there'll be a special or something that ties it to SP's timeline and introduces the Outlander lions.
